Houston...You know the rest

I LOST MY CAMERA CORD. Not a huuuuge problem, but most of the unposted ugly sweater pictures are on my camera and cannot be accessed without the said cord :/ Sad day. Big Sis #2 and I also made a Christmas video, but after four attempts it's still not uploading...technology isn't working for me today apparently soooo.....

Happy New Year!! (That topic will come soon.)

[12 hours later....]

Soon as in right now. It's 3 am and I've had quite the New Year already. Quick synopsis: 4 parties, lots of food, fireworks, 2 movies, lots of food, hot cocoa, ball dropping, Auld Lang San, and lots of food. (You may notice a pattern, and I don't think I can adequately tell you all how much food I actually ate. It was a lot. As in enough to make me throw up. Gross. That's A LOT of food. Too much info? Sorry.) Anywho, resolution time!!!

{Ahem} My resolutions are as follows: graduate with highest honors, figure out something to do for the next year/get accepted to grad school/actually take the GRE, recuperate from the disaster that was the entire last half of 2010, aaaaaand I think that's about it. Generally get my life in some kind of order; can't ask for much else, eh? ;) Also, I have a resolution to refine some of my current hobbies. I love learning how to do stuff--sewing, painting, quilting, reading, playing instruments, collecting stuff from the 70s, writing this blog, jewelry, photography, building cameras...I love all of it. The more stuff I have to do, the better. Whooooo!!!!!

It's a new year and a good time to leave all of the less-than-ideal stuff behind, starting NOW! :) Starting with my new musical obsession: Marianas Trench. Yeeesssssss. Amazing. Happy New Years everyone :) Hope it's a good one.

Wonderful Irish Sunshine

Soooo, today I woke up and it was SUNNY and GORGEOUS and WARM out, so what was the best way to take advantage of the day? Go for a run of course! I ended up finding the NUIG regional track after I took a detour from the usual route. Super duper (it is a very nice track). On my way home it started to downpour, which was fine with me. Then we went grocery shopping, came home, and went exploring!

I was randomly looking out the window and realized that there was a little path behind our house. Who knew? So Melissa and I went to find it and had to scale a wall to do so. Once we had gotten to the other side, we noticed a little mini horse and this was the smallest horse that I have ever seen in my life. Anywho, it looked lonely so I went up and started to pet it; poor little guy, he was sweating uncontrollably, there was no water anywhere for him to drink, and his eyes were dripping with who-knows-what. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do, sad day. After that we left to resume the afternoon and enjoy more of the day. When climbing over the wall again, what did we find? A lonely license plate! It was at the end of a dead end road and was from 11 years ago and had apparently been abandoned. I think you can tell how this story ends... :D Then it went back to a pretty typical day and we had EARTH HOUR!!!--this is when you shut off everything for an hour. It was dark out and there wasn't much to do, so we went for a walk. Delightful!

That's my day and now I will give y'all some suggestions in case you want to brush up on Irish history (I have these all hyper-linked, so you can click on them for the Wikipedia articles):

Angela's Ashes
by Frank McCourt: This is a book about an Irish family during the 1930s and 40s.

The Wind that Shakes the Barley: This is a movie about the Irish War of Independence from Britain--very sad, very well made, and the actors are actually Irish.

Michael Collins: This is a movie about Michael Collins who was a leader in the Irish revolution and a key player in the Anglo-Irish Treaty.

So, that's all I've got. Have a great day!

Another Day in the Wonderful Life of Yours Truly

So today I woke up thinking that I was going to go to work. However, being carless for the next week, I couldn't really do much by myself to get there. I called my boss and for the sake of not wasting a WHOLE bunch of time telling the story, I didn't go to work today. I stayed at home and got a ton of stuff done. This sounds good, but do not be fooled. While the first couple hours were quite productive, by early afternoon I was quite lonely (both the roomies were gone. sad.), no one would answer their phone, and I was quite literally stuck at home. Oh geez. What was I to do? Clean of course! So whilst in quite the state of despair, my room is looking much better. While all of this was going on--the being by myself and all--compounded with the horrendous night I had, my day was not going so well. But then, I had a saving grace of sorts in the form of a delightful friend calling. We proceeded to go shopping, pick up some food, eat at my house, and had an all-around delightful time.

Also a delightful time was tonight when the aforementioned friend took "The Cable Man" out of the DVD player and snapped it in half. The world is now a better place. If you have never seen that movie, I would suggest keeping it that way. If you have, you have my deepest and most sincere apologies. Seriously. You do. Terrible movie.

Moving on, in the previous post I mentioned that I would expound on what I learned this year. Here goes...

1. Be yourself for yourself and not for anyone else.

2. Hiding emotions is not always the best route to take.

3. Life isn't about big accomplishments. It is about all of the little moments, conversations, inside jokes, spontaneous plans, and utter surprises that can be thrown at us. It sounds cliched and corny, but seriously, we will never remember what we did in class or at work on a specific day, but we will remember the one time that we skipped out and caused mayhem and whatnot.

4. It's good to move on, but only when the time is right. Because this is a list of what I have learned, I'll expound a little more on this. When this happened to me, I started chucking stuff. I was moving on with my life and simplifying in the process. Thanks to this little change, my room and car (contrary to popular belief and physical evidence) are much less cluttered and I am much happier. I don't know if this is actually a correlation but that's ok. :)

5. People are generally interesting. I read a quote that said something along the lines of "Everyone that is interesting has a past that made them that way". Indeed, anonymous scholar, indeed. Even if a person does not seem that interesting at first, they will become more so with time. It's true.

Ok, that's all I've got for now. I'm spent :) If I think of anything else I'll throw it on the end of the list.

Wowza. Hello, October.

Here's the deal. I had an uber busy week--group projects due, tests, studying, snow (lame), people randomly leaving stuff inside my house (I'll get to this later), and all of the other wonderfulness that comes with being a college student. However, regardless of all of this, tonight is the biggest thing that's happened to me since...I actually don't know what. Wisdom teeth removal last Christmas maybe? Who knows. Anyway, about six months or a year ago I decided that I wanted to study abroad. I decided on Ireland and I turned in my application last week. I got the acceptance (heck yes. acceptance) letter back today. I went to Midnight Mania on campus, then watched a movie, then came home. I got the letter at precisely 3:34 a.m. I called someone (oh yes, someone) at 3:35 a.m. to tell them the news. We are celebrating tomorrow night after an ugly-sweater-themed quadruple date (set up by an ex-boyfriend. awkward?). As of right now I am quite torn. I've finally started to figure things out on the homefront and now I have the opportunity to live abroad in IRELAND for six months? Oh geez. This will take some pondering.

Onto random people coming to my house when I'm not home. Monday: Service project for church involving picking up apples. Three guys ended up with seven bags of apples and decided that I desperately needed them. They came to my house, no one was home but the front door was unlocked, they came in and put them in the fridge. The next morning I actually got stuff out of the fridge and never noticed the huge bag. Wow. How observant of me. Tuesday: One of my friends came to my house and my roommate let him in. He left a bouquet of flowers, a card, and a box of chocolates on my bed. Hmmm......complicates things. Wednesday: The aforementioned ex-boyfriend that set up the quadruple date left a sizable box of potatoes in my kitchen. He was also let into my house by my roommate. For clarification purposes, he and his roommates randomly ended up with 200 pounds of potatoes, so they are currently trying to give them away. Or leave them places.

Oh goodness gracious. It is 4:12 in the morning and I have to write a 5-15 page paper tomorrow. I have not done the research, nor started it in any way. In addition to this, I have an assignment using Accel due tomorrow night and I had no idea this said assignment even existed until about 6:30 p.m. this evening. So, here I leave you. Scratch that. This first: "I, being poor, have only my dreams. I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams." Nifty little quote, eh? From the movie "Equilibrium" a.k.a. the movie we watched tonight. It is excellent and I would highly recommend it.

"Pretty in Pink" Called and They Want Their Plot Back

Yep. My life. Right now. At least in the movie it only takes and hour and a half to find out how the story ends. Mine has been ongoing for the past 3 1/2 months and I'm thinking it's time to give up.

On a not-similar note, I went to "(500) Days of Summer" tonight and it was quite thought provoking. For anyone that has ever been in a relationship and gotten their heart obliterated, you will be able to appreciate it (but only if the hurting is gone). It tells a story of a first love and the bittersweet memories that it undoubtedly brings back. It is quite accurate in how a broken heart feels and the agony of moving on and letting go. It was slightly painful to watch, but I would highly recommend it--it was funny and off-beat. Ok, I'm over the movie review.

I discovered a new song yesterday, it's called "Just Like Heaven" originally by The Cure. I found a remake by Gatsby's American Dream and I think I like it better than the original (sorry all you fans of The Cure). Here are the lyrics:

"Show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream" she said
"The one that makes me laugh" she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it
And I promise you I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you"

Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways I had
To make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said
"Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you"

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream

Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
And found myself alone alone
Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me

You
Soft and only
You
Lost and lonely
You
Just like heaven

Goodness, sorry if this post has been a downer. I have honestly had one of the most stressful weeks of my life and I'm not handling it very well.
