The 80s are invading my life*

Hi, my name is Kelty and I like to stay up late for no reason at all. Note, this is different from: Hi, my name is Kelty and I like to stay up late doing things that need to be done by morning time. FOR SOME REASON, if I'm doing something I'm *supposed* to be doing, I want to go to bed promptly by 11 pm. But, if I'm doing nothing of importance, I think it's necessary to stay up until 3 am. Like right now, for example. Woof.

Now that that's covered, the weekend! Big Sis and I went home, she and momo went to see Pioneer Woman and I babysat the little guy. Then my dad got home, he started watching B, and I got to go finish (hopefully) two photo assignments. This was followed by Some Kind of Wonderful and a horrible infomercial for Time Life Easy 80s 5-cd boxed set. Yep, an entire half an hour. Complete with commercial breaks. I watched the first 28 minutes then decided to forego the last 2. Sad day.

So this morning Big Sis woke up with a sinus infection. Good thing I still had sinus medicine in my wallet from when I had a sinus infection in Ireland! Gave her one of those puppies and she was out like a light! Ooops. Coincidentally, I drove home and she was groggy for the next 6 hours. Sorry, sis.

Since then, I've done some homework and decided to buy more ink for the printer.

This is it's own story. My printer is also a scanner and copier. None of the functions will work if one of the ink cartridges is out, which the black has been for a few weeks. I had to scan some pictures, so I had to bust out of the house and get a cartridge. I got to Staples at 7:11 pm and the automatic doors would not open. I must have looked super sad standing there looking at the door that wouldn't open, because a nice boy opened the door for me and said, "Wow. You looked really sad and miserable out there." He went on to say, "we're actually closed, but you can come in." How nice! He helped me find the ink I needed, walked me to the register, back to the door in case it wouldn't open and bid me a good night. Delightful! I have no idea who you are, but thank you uber nice Sigma Chi Staples Employee Boy! You made my day!

Moving on. Here is what I wanted to scan:

Aren't you glad I went through all that trouble? As a matter of interest, these are all Polaroids, even though only one of them has the border. Thank you mom. I heart my camera :) Oh, also as a matter of interest, I went to an 80s party last weekend and ran a 10K the next day. Just in case you were wondering.

*Let's go through the list, shall we? Easy 80s boxed set, 80s party, Some Kind of Wonderful, Polaroid camera, and photo assignment with an ancient film camera. They've invaded. And none of this was on purpose. Oh, and I just bought a pair of Topsiders :/

Happy Valentine's Day

{Ahem} This is a post about Valentine's Day. Contrary to popular belief, Valentine's Day is for more people than just those who have a significant other. Think about it! There are different kinds of love and it would be semi-creepy if they only people you felt love for were the ones you were in love with. Creepy. Family, friends, small dogs--they're all lovable right? Right.

Soooo, Valentine's Day. I like it because while I do not have a Valentine (unless one comes along in the next 36 hours), I do like giving out cheesy little cards--this years pick has elephants. Don't question it, they're pretty awesome. Also, chances are if you are in any sort of vicinity to me at the current time and I see you in the next few days you will be getting one :D

Now moving on to things that this particular holiday is good for. If not currently in relationship, but in that weird stage in between it's kind of a tell-all for where the situation is headed. Also, it is good for chivalry. It encourages us to show other people how we feel about them, usually in the form of chocolate, flowers, creepy red and pink teddy bears, or generally cheesy cards that involve stickers of some kind. What other day prompts us to do the sweet things we may not have done otherwise? No day. Tragic isn't it?

So kids, while also known as 'Singles Awareness Day' (which let's be honest here, is pretty true), Valentine's Day can also be an excuse to buy your friends lots and lots of sugar and somewhat convey to them how much their friendship means (awwww that's adorable!!). Sooo that's about all I've got on that subject...other than what I wrote last year. Which coincidentally, here I have pictures of!! (You should probs go read the post for the full story.)

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!!!

p.s. the next follower of my blog will be the first to hit the double digits. just sayin'.

Zzzz

Soo here is a short evolution of my hair. Yep. That's how exciting my life is--I'm devoting an entire post to my new haircut ('cause I'm that cool :D ).

P.S. Post title comes from "Zzzz" by the Cab. Check it. It also is in reference to the sleep that I *haven't* been getting lately. Thank you 20 credits, you're awesome ;)

It's about time

For what? The rest of Ugly Sweater December!!! It's a little late, but with good reason. FIRST, I left my camera cord at home, THEN when I got my cord back I lost my camera, TODAY I found the said camera in my car (which is clean, so I don't know I couldn't see it), anywho, here they are--sweaters #18-24. I don't know where #25 is :/ sorry. I'll find it eventually.

Eventually is right now. I just found it!!!!

Sunday, January 16, 2011

I'm really bored right now.

I've had a request from Big Sis #2 to post pictures of the various costumes I've had over the past couple of years. I didn't want to find all of them, so you get this instead: different uses I've had for white Hanes t-shirts!!! (that's kinda close, right?)

1. Team Shirts: Amoebic Dysentery was a soccer team comprised mainly of premed majors. Big surprise? I think not. I also added little teeny tiny socks to this shirt, they're just not in the picture.

2. Yeah I don't really know what's up with this other than I thought the idea of trees eating birds was hi-larious.

3. Aaargh, matey.

4. Redneck zombie complete with baseball bat and cowboy boots.

5. Matching tie-dye with Little B.

6. Homecoming in high school--matching t-shirt theme with best shirts ever.

7. 80s dance--not the best 80s outfit, but not super horrible either.

8. Made for midnight premier of HP5...I think. Inspiration from Potter Puppet Pals (you can't see it all the way but it says "sometimes I have nightmares about Dobby eating my skin clean off").

There you have it. 8 different uses for white t-shirts. Next post to come your way: the rest of ugly sweater December.

Weird Crap I Find

I was looking through the pictures on my computer and I found a few that I had forgotten about. I am now sharing them with you--here is the weird stuff I find:

...in thrift stores

...around the house

...and around town.

Hope you enjoyed that.

One. Year. Later.

Exactly a year ago (down to the minute), I was all sorts of distressed sleeping in someone's house--I didn't know them, they didn't know me (hence the distressed state). It was my first night in Ireland and while I should have been in my [new, but unfamiliar] house with my [new, but unfamiliar] roommates, I was at the neighbors. After 32 hours of traveling, I had arrived where I needed to be, 6 hours late, to find no one at home. Problematic. With my luggage and disheveled self as the only things I had, I was going to fix the problem at hand: I needed somewhere to sleep and there were no taxis, telephones, or hotels in sight. There was however, an entire neighborhood of unassuming neighbors. Door #1: nothing (turned out to be The Boys Next Door). Door #2: They were home, but couldn't be bothered to help. I don't really blame them--a stranded American at 9 pm is kinda sketchy. Door #3: Frank and Mary. Thankfully, this wonderful older couple took pity on me, fed me dinner, let me sleep in the spare room, woke me up in the morning, and pointed me in the right direction for orientation :)

I thought I'd share that story BECAUSE it had yet to appear on this blog due to the nature of mothers and me not wanting mine to have a heart attack when I had been gone less than 48 hours. Jolly-o!

Moving on, I finally got rid of the kitchen table, BECAUSE I found a super stellar one for FREE about a month ago; it is now painted, the chairs are re-upholstered and all I needed was space in my kitchen. Hence, the getting rid of the previous table. Here is the before picture. Uuuugly, but with a little love....

Here is the after:

It is all a lot cooler than the pictures let on :) Anywho, that's my day in a nutshell. Peace out.

#9-#17

Whew. That was a lot of photo uploading. 'Oh was it?' you ask. Yes, yes it was. And here are 8 wonderful days of ugly sweater goodness for your viewing pleasure!!

EPIC FAIL. I was had a rough all-nighter of paper editing and the sweater was not happening.

Sweater #8

The song of the day is "The Rain Don't Last" by Hope.

Could it be the world's gone colder?
Maybe, I'm a losing soul
The more I try it just gets harder
And my pain is getting old
Somebody said that nothing lasts forever
Just the storm so I've been told
But it seems that when it rains it pours

And you know the rain won't last forever
And you know the storm won't always flow
But if the sun don't shine forever
You gotta let it go

Sometimes my burdens get so heavy
And it seems too hard to bear
Sometimes I feel so empty
And it feels like no one's there
Somebody said that nothing lasts forever
Just the storm so I've been told
But it seems that when it rains it pours

And you know the rain won't last forever
And you know the storm won't always flow
But if the sun don't shine forever
You gotta let it go

And the sweater of the day is this lovely little number. I in fact did wear it most of the day, but Big Sis needs to borrow it, so by the time this picture was taken I (obviously as you can see) was no longer wearing it and yes, that is Big Sis #1. Those skiers are 3D by the way; they are sewn onto the sweater.

Sweater #6

It is bizarre how quickly textbooks go out of date. Take, for example, my promotions textbook--NEWEST edition, copyright 2009. It lists Bebo as a legit form of social networking, Facebook as having only 30.6 million users (now 500 million+), and has 18-34 year olds (now 45+) as the heaviest users. Whoa buddy.

Anywho, that's the fun marketing nerdery for the day. Also for the day, here is the ugly sweater. Strangely, when my family first moved into the house in which the parentals are currently residing, the wallpaper in the kitchen strikingly resembled this lovely, lovely sweater...same colors and everything! (By the way, that's how you know a sweater is good--it comes with matching wall paper.)

That's about all I've got. Peace out.

Welp, Glad That's Over

Here we have today's lovely piece of textile beauty.

And yes, I did wear it to church.

End of Week Spirit

Today's happenings in a nutshell: work, football game, hung out at home, Christmas stroll, home, now homework shortly. For now however, I bring you sweater #4. Note that the turtle neck is sew onto the sweater, that is neat.

**Please don't judge me that I have a self-taken picture in a mirror. I had forgotten all day to get a picture.**

Christmas Partyus

Today the ugly sweater was in fact a sweater vest. It was a bright red number, sporting gold-colored buttons fashioned after ancient Roman coins. Classy. The boss was also feeling festive as you can see from her fab dress :D

And in case you're wondering the 'us' at the end of the title comes from Ugly Sweater. Righty-o.

Class Presentation Ugly Sweater

That's right. Today I had a group presentation in one of my classes, and in continuing the lovely Christmas spirit, I wore an ugly sweater and recruited one of the other members of the team to do the same. Booyah!! Ok, granted his took the cake for the day; I figured mine shouldn't be hideous, so I stuck with a wool hunting sweater that in reality was not that bad at all. His however, was amazing.

Ugly Sweater December Has Started **Updated**

Whooo!!! For every day of December until Christmas I will wear a different ugly sweater, ugly sweatshirt, or ugly sweater vest. Some of them worse than others. Here is cardigan #1.

Now that we've got that covered, I have a few items of business to address.
  1. Some hateful, unhappy little person broke into Big Sis #2's car. While it was parked in a church parking lot. Happy holidays to them, too.
  2. I know more about the ski industry than I ever cared to, so if you ever want to know about specialty ski sales, I'm your girl.
  3. I am looking at craft blogs for a class. I love my major :)
  4. Florence + the Machine rocks. Glee finally got something right this season.
  5. I just scored the suh-weeetest dining room set. For free. I love college towns for the inordinate amount of free, totally rockin' furniture available. I'll post pics once it's painted. Try not to be too jealous.
  6. I may or may not have done an entire load of laundry with the washer lid open. Ooops.
  7. Flannel sheets during the winter = pure heavenly bliss
That's all for now. Peace out.

Photography! That is the answer, but not the kind you'd usually think of. Hooookay, here's the deal, I found this article a few months ago (approximately February) so when I got home I built one! While it IS fun and all sorts of delightful, I could never get mine to work quite right--all the pictures were unfocused and blurry. Sad day. Sooooo I gave up on that little project.

THEN I re-discovered a camera like this:

My mom had given it to me awhile ago and I had forgotten about it. Anywho, found the camera, went exploring, took some pictures and here is one I particularly like (by the way, this hasn't been edited AT ALL)

That is camera #1, camera #2 I acquired today and it is flippin' sweet, it is a Kodak Pony 135 from 1950:

Yeah buddy. So that is my newest hobby. We'll see how long it lasts ;) Yep yep. I'm super sleepy and must go to bed, but not before leaving you with the recommendation of the day. Hmmmm....tv show: Arrested Development. Hilarious. Oh and for music (compliments to this song for the title of this post), "Double Vision" by 3OH!3.

Peace out.

Hola from the Student Newspaper

Da-da-da-daaaaaaaaa! I am now a legit published photographer. Yes, that is correct. I entered a photo I took in a Study Abroad photo contest, got that puppy accepted, they put up in the student gallery on campus, and it was the ONE PHOTO from the exhibit featured in the student newspaper. Heck yeah. What is the photo you ask? Here it is!

Now you will enjoy basking in the pure awesome radiating from the screen above this. Aaaahhhh. Refreshing.

I am Home

Pretty self-explanatory, really. I am now back in the 406. Woot. Let's sum up the past two weeks, shall we? {Ahem}:

1. For some reason none of the clocks in my house are showing close to the same time and consequently only ONE has the right time (and all of the clocks are still working. Odd.).

2. I have FIVE loads of laundry to do. Woof. Not to mention the whole stack that I have to drop by the dry cleaners.

3. I was in Utah for a week in the glorious, glorious hot weather and now that I'm back in Montana I'm starting to wonder if summer will last for more than day-long spurts before reverting back to storms.

That's about all I've got. So moving on to what y'all want to ACTUALLY see--as in pictures from the last couple of weeks I spent in Ireland. Here they are, enjoy! :)

This is the only coral beach in Ireland.

Nifty signs, eh?

These are the Shandon Bells

This is how one would play the Shandon Bells.

The salmon weir on the River Lee in Cork.

Tandem biking around the Aran Islands!! :D

Oh yes, sheep. Lots and LOTS of sheep, especially in the middle of the road.

Working boat races in Carna.

These are the Cliffs of Moher. Freakin' sweet.

School's out for SUMMER

I finished all of my classes three weeks ago, so what have I been up to? I will tell you--Dublin for a night, Morocco for a week, Cork for the better part of five days and back to Galway. Since then we've gone out to the Aran Islands (it was GORGEOUS) and rode a tandem bike around for a couple of hours, drove through Connemara, went to some boat races in Carna, went to a coral beach, and went to the Cliffs of Moher. That is the past two weeks in a nutshell. Here are more deeeeets and some pictures (they should all be fairly self-explanatory):

MOROCCO

I'll post pictures of everything else later, later as in 'when I'm back in Montana'. Weird. Tonight is my last night in Galway and that is tragic. I leave tomorrow morning for Dublin and fly out on Tuesday, travel 19 hours, and finally get home. Oofka. Yeah. So in entirely stealing the idea from a friend I have made a list, two actually. Things I'll miss and things I won't. Here we go,

Thing's I'll miss about Ireland:
Squash (the drink, not the veg)
Melissa and Sinead
Good chocolate
Walking everywhere
The ocean
Being able to take the bus and be across the country in a few hours
Trad music
Walking on the prom
Everything being green ALL YEAR
Watching entire episodes of tv shows on YouTube
Everything running late ;)

Things I won't miss about Ireland:
Leatherjackets (aka flying daddy long legs. gross)
Hanging clothes to dry (I'm a whiner, I know ;))
Wood lice in my bedroom
Conversion charges at the ATM

Those were just what I could think of on a whim. If I think of anything else, I'll post them up there. Anywho, it's getting late and I have to be up early to finish cleaning everything up and scoot out the door.

My music recommendation for now is the album Films About Ghosts by Counting Crows. Amazing. Ireland, I heart you.
