Lessons from 90s Movies

So recently (3 hours ago), I watched Take Me Home Tonight. Let me break down the plot:

[Nerdy] Guy likes [Popular] Girl in high school.
They both graduate without anything happening.
Ten years later, they go to the same party.
They hook up.
The end.

There you have it. I mean there's definitely more in there, but those are the basics. Look familiar???? It should if you have seen Can't Hardly Wait. Different timeline but same plot. So what can we learn from these movies? We'll make a list:
  1. Nerdy dudes get hot chicks even if they have no job.
  2. The defining scene for finding your soul mate will come at a crappy house party that lasts until 8 am. At that point, everyone gets breakfast.
I think that's a good enough list for now (it is 2:21 am, after all). While these lessons are quite applicable to everyday life, we cannot forget what other 90s gems have taught us:
  1. Accordions will get you girls (Whatever It Takes)
  2. Quoting Shakespeare actually works...especially when pyrotechnics are involved (Get Over It)
  3. Girls will still give guys a second chance even when they find out they're part of a dare (She's All That AND 10 Things I Hate About You...bonus points!)
  4. People with names of famous couples are destined to end up together (Empire Records)
  5. It's ok to hook up with teachers (Never Been Kissed)
So now that these very, very important life lessons have been established, it's time for me to go to bed. G'night.

**Disclaimer: I love movies from the 90s. In fact, they may be some of my favorites, if not at the very top of the list. If this post makes it seem otherwise, I apologize profusely.**

I can't fall asleeepppp.....

I really can't. It's like a million degrees in my apartment and the peeps above me are doing something noisy. So here is a video for y'all that has nothing to do with me sleeping or the people above me.

As a synopsis of my weekend: Swimming in the river, working the farmers market, floating the river, locking myself out of my apartment, breaking into my own apartment, church, dinner with the peeps, a really long bike ride, and learning how to drive a mini motorcycle. I think that about covers it. Peace out. I'm going to try to fall asleep...again.

Oh snap.

I passed 3500 visitors!
Yay for me.

It's the end of July now, which means school has been over for almost 3 months. Which means that for the last 3 months I've been going to sleep at pretty reasonable times.

Not tonight.

Streaming the 7th season of Boy Meets World for 3 hours has put me awake at 3:40 am. Holy moly.

So I figured blog posts written in the middle of the night are always fun, so let's have another!

Here's how the summer has been:

I don't think that actually explains anything, I just like it lots. That's from my new camera. Totally dope. Anywho, in other news, I'm flying solo while my roommate is on vacay (meaning I'm eating the cheesecake that is left in the fridge). Welp, that's all I've got so I'm going to bed.

I just wanted to share that super news and a fun picture.

P.S. I'm ready to have my long hair back. I miss it.

A Quick Lesson in Grammar

Sometimes it's easy to confuse words.
Like it's vs its.
You're vs your.
Their vs there vs they're.
Good vs well.
He/she vs him/her vs I/me.

You get the point. Today I would like to point out the difference between two other words:

Gorilla vs Guerrilla
A gorilla is a large, large mammal or a kind of glue. Period. These are the only way 'gorilla' can be used. Example: That man had so much hair he looked like a gorilla. Do not use Gorilla Glue to close minor cuts, use Super Glue instead.

Guerrilla can refer to a kind of army, marketing, or mission done in an irregular (most of the time covert) way. Example: The guerrilla army was small and mobile. The guerrilla marketing campaign included ninjas...or pictures on the street.

Now you know the difference :D

The quote of the day comes from my boss: "It's really hard to mess up Mexican food. All you need to do is fry a tortilla and load it with beans and the cheapest taco meat you can find, but every time I go to Santa Fe Red's they manage to screw it up in new, very impressive ways. Who knows what will happen when we trust them to make sandwiches!"

Hey look what I did.

After I found some film at home I went to Costco and got it developed. Here ya go. Welcome to my awkward growing up years.

4H as the Junior Grand Champion for swine. Yeeep.

See me? The Statue of Liberty there? Yeah, it was *literally* 100+ degrees out and I was wrapped in a space blanket. Worst bloody nose of my life.

Welcome to my freshman year of high school with my horse, Mouse, and my dog, Squirt. Heck yeah I rodeoed!

That was fun.

Grocery Shopping Got Me Thinking

So today I was in Safeway getting groceries. On my way to the checkout line I happened to look at the magazine rack and Justin Bieber was on the cover. Not a huge surprise. The headline under his picture, however, was kind of surprising: "The 100 Most Important Days of Justin Bieber's Life". Whaaaaat. Ok, let's Wikipedia this kid...he was born March 1, 1994. Since 1994 we have had four leap years, meaning that as of today he has been alive for 6336 days. So, if this list outlines the most 100 important days of his life that means every 63.36 days is one of the most important.

Simply put, he had a super-duper-ultimately-significant day roughly every two months. No wonder he's a big deal. I'm pretty sure I could boil my big milestones down to under 10. Let's see:
  1. Being born. Without this day I wouldn't be able to do much else.
  2. First day of school. Without a 'first day' there would be no school afterwards.
  3. Baptism. Religion is generally a large part of my life.
  4. High school graduation. Any event that warrants people giving me stuff that's not a holiday is a big deal to this kid.
  5. September 27, 2009. As if you don't already know, that was the day I started this blog.
  6. College graduation. That means I can be done with school forever and not feel like a menace to society.
Right. Ok. There's MY list. If we divide THOSE by the numbers of days I've been alive (8159), that means I have one significant event every 1359.83 days or roughly every 3.7 years. Yep.

I heart summer

I'm sitting outside, eating a popsicle and reading Harry Potter. I submit that life can't really get any better :)

I heart this song.

I recall a long farewell and a time to choose
So we part like rivers baby, yeah like rivers do
But I still talk about you though and wonder
How it is your life will unfold

Show me what it looks like
Outside your window at twilight
Show me what it looks like

I recall drivin' home, this ain't gonna hit me till God knows when
You know I feel it in my bones and I wear it on my skin
But there ain't no use in right or wrong,
A heart must go where it belongs

Show me what it looks like
Outside your window at twilight
Is it me that you see dancing on a line,
Singing I could be yours if you would be mine
C'mon and grow old with me and surely you'll see

And I remember thinking, that boy you must be dreaming

So hold on, hold on, before it's all gone
And I do remember thinking
That your world will go on spinning
Without me now, so come on, come on please

Show me what it looks like
Outside your window at twilight, yeah

Yeah, show me what it looks like
Outside your window at twilight
Is it me that you see dancing on a line,
Singing I could be yours if you would be mine
Show me what it looks like,
Show me what it looks like,
Show me what it looks like.
C'mon and grow old with me and surely you'll see

I recall a long farewell and a time to choose
So we part like rivers baby, yeah like rivers do

This isn't actually about anything. **Updated**

Yep. Still on sabbatical BUT I am completely moved and am arr arone in my new apartment, until later this week at least. In other news, I made (cooked. from scratch.) some bomb Hawaiian Haystacks, I went to the farmer's market this morning, took a trek across town to fetch my bike (in flip flops, nonetheless), laid out on the balcony in the sun, and have a new obsession with this song:

Right. Glad we had that discussion. Now I'm babysitting the little tyke while Big Sis and BrotherInLaw go to the movies for Father's Day. Whoo!! So that's about all I've got. I hit 60+ hours for working this week and my brain isn't at full functionality so if I think of anything laterrrr I'll post it. Peace out.

Just kidding. For real, I finally had a day off--no work, no packing, no unpacking, no cleaning, no homework, nowhere to be, and nothing super duper important to do. It was glorious. You've already been filled in on most of my day. The only part missing was the part where I told you that I sat here watching Modern Family for 3 hours. Amazing. Now I'm going to go raid the freezer for some ice cream. Booyah!

The Start of Summer Sabbatical

Yes. I have been on a sabbatical. Actually, I just haven't had internet at my house for the last month and a half and I don't really like posting stuff from my phone, it takes for-eh-ver. Anywho, in Kelty news, I'm an intern at a software company, I'm moving somewhere this weekend (I don't know where yet), and it never stops pouring rain in Montana. True story. Other than that I've got nothing. Pictures from this summer? Ok! Blanket forts, gnome adventures, and a White Trash Trailer Bash as a last hoorah before I move out of the trailer. Sad day.

Let me tell you about THE TRAILER. This has been my humble abode for the last 4 years and I'm actually quite torn up about leaving. As a recap, on August 16, 2007 I moved in with 1 CAR LOAD of stuff (compared to how much I moved this afternoon alone that's not much). Anywho, since that time I've had:
  • 8 roommates
  • 3 birthday parties (of my own)
  • 10+ frozen pipe experiences
  • 1 new garbage disposal
  • 8 semesters of school
  • 132 college credits
  • 2 degrees
  • 5 jobs
  • 3 cars
  • 3 laptops
  • 1 trip to Ireland
Yep. That's a pretty good list. If I think of anything else I'll chuck it up there. But alas, as of Sunday at 1 pm I will no longer live in the trailer and am moving on with my life. [sigh]. So this song is a shout out to the Yellow Gallatin 1972 Mobile Home in which I currently reside:

Yeah. That just happened, not super relevant but whatevs. Peace out homies.
